Throwback Thursday

Happy Thursday Steel Fans!! We hope you are enjoying the beautiful weather outside today. It look like it is going to be a gorgeous weekend as well. Since the Steel's opening game is against the Gamblers, we figured that we would go backwards in time and take a look at the rivalry between the Chicago Steel and the Green Bay Gamblers.

Chicago and Green Bay have always had a big rilvary with each other and you are able to see it in the fast, physical games they play against one another. This year begins a new season of games. When these two teams battle against each other, we can expect to see a sound physical and mental game being played on the ice.

Check out some of the actions shots we have from this past season:

If you haven't ordered your opening tickets for Friday, September 20th, make sure to order them online at http://tickets.chicagosteelhockeyteam.com or call (630) 594-1161 to purchase tickets over the phone.

Don't forget to comment on our "Three Truths and A Lie" post to win an autograph jersey, that you can then wear on opening night! There are only 7 more days left to enter, so don't miss out!!

Happy Wednesday Steel Fans!! We hope you are having a great week so far! It's time for our July contest, and we hope that you are as excited as we are.

For our July contest, we are going to play three truths and a lie. We talked with three of our former players and asked them to give us four facts about themselves. Three of the statements are true and one is a lie. All you have to do is tell us which statement, for each player, is a lie by posting a comment below. Whether you are right or wrong, you will be automatically entered into the contest.

The winner will receive an autographed practice jersey, by some of our Steel players!!

Ready to play?? Here we go!!!

Identify the lie for each of these players.

A Parade and Some Fireworks

Happy Monday Steel Fans!! We hope that you had a wonderful 4th of July weekend. Today we thought that we would recap our 4th for all of you.

We started out bright and at the Bensenville parade, with some of boys!

Rusty was even there to spread some cheer!

By 10am, our vehicle was decorated and ready to go…

And so was the entire group!

The parade lasted a couple hours. Everyone had a great time, and we got to see some of our amazing fans, as well as, make some new friends. That night we did what most people do…we watched some

FIREWORKS!!!

What did all of you do on the 4th of July? Did you go see any parades or fireworks? This week we have our youth hockey camp, so we will be recapping that and next week we have another contest for all of you!!

Have a great day everyone!!

Fun Facts Tuesday

Happy Tuesday Steel Fans! We hope that you have a shortened week with the 4th just a few days away. Hopefully some of you are planning to have a barbeque or go to see fireworks.

As we all know on the Fourth of July we celebrate the day 56 men, from 13 colonies, signed the Declaration of Independence to free us from British rule. With the Fourth of July just days away, we thought it would be fun to give you some fun facts about the holiday! Check them out!

  • The Fourth of July was not declared a national holiday until 1941.
  • Malia Obama, George Steinbrenner, Neil Simon, Ron Kovic, and Calivin Coolidge were all born on the Fourth of July.
  • These events occurred on the Fourth of July: Henry David Thoreau moved into his shack on Walden Pond (1845); the U.S. air offensive against Nazi, Germany, began (1942); Beach Boys' "I Get Around" reached No. 1 on the Billboard charts (1964); Lyndon Johnson signed the Freedom of Information Act (1966).
  • The stars on the original American flag were in a circle so all the Colonies would appear equal.
  • Benjamin Franklin proposed the turkey as the national bird but was overruled by John Adams and Thomas Jefferson, who wanted the bald eagle.
  • The musical "1776" premiered on Broadway in 1969 and ran for 1,217 performances. The production won three Tony Awards, including one for best musical.
  • The number of Americans who will spend the holiday at other people's homes is approximately 41 million.
  • The first official Fourth of July party was held at the White House in 1801.
  • Approximately 150 million hot dogs are consumed on this day.
  • President John Adams, Thomas Jefferson, and James Monroe all died on the Fourth. Adams and Jefferson died on the same day within hours of each other in 1826.
  • The percentage of American homes with an outdoor grill is 87 percent.
  • The song "Yankee Doodle" was sung originally by British officers making fun of backwoods Americans.
  • The amount of chicken purchased the week before the holiday is 700 million pounds.
  • The Declaration of Independence was signed by 56 men from 13 colonies.
  • In 1776 there were 2.5 million people living in the new nation (Today there are over 311 million.).
  • 59 towns nationwide have the word "Liberty" in their names, with Pennsylvania having a total of 11 throughout the state.
  • Betsy Ross designed and made the first United States flag.
  • The 13 stripes on the flag represent the 13 original colonies, and the 50 stars represent each state.

Well fans, we hope that you enjoyed our fun fact Tuesday! For the 4th, the Steel will be in the Bensenville Parade! Come out to see our float, as well as, your favorite mascot, RUSTY!! We hope to see you there!

Have a pucktastic day everyone!!
