This weekend, the Chicago Steel (3-3-2) have their first
three and three of the season. On Friday, they host the Cedar Rapids
RoughRiders in a rematch of last Friday’s overtime thriller. On Saturday, the
Steel welcome the Des Moines Buccaneers to the Edge for the first time this season.
Sunday the Steel head to Wisconsin for the first ever regular season matchup
against the Madison Capitols. Puck drops are at 7:30 p.m., 7:00 p.m. and 3:00
p.m., respectively.
Last Friday’s game against the RoughRiders was a tough one
for the Steel. John Schilling was able to tie the game in the final minute of
the third period, only to see Cedar Rapids forward Clark Kuster notch the game
winner in overtime. “Last weekend was a tough one against Cedar Rapids,” said
Steel forward Connor Murphy. “We know we did a lot of good things, and we just
have to really pay attention to the details this week and we can give them some
payback on Friday night.”
The RoughRiders (7-1-0) are currently on a four game win
streak and have the best win percentage in the league. Goaltender Ben Blacker
has been superb so far this season, posting the top save percentage in the
league at .951 percent.
Saturday’s game will not get any easier for the Steel, as
the Des Moines Buccaneers (6-2-1) come to the Edge tied for second in the
Western conference. Although the Buccaneers lost twice last weekend, goaltenders
Ryland Pashovitz and Ryan Ruck have proven to be one of the best tandems in net
this season. Des Moines will host the Sioux Falls Stampede on Friday night
prior to traveling to Chicago.
On Sunday, the Steel face the Madison Capitols (1-5-2) on
the road. Madison has struggled in their first season as a franchise but do
have some momentum coming into the weekend as they earned their first USHL win
last Friday against Sioux Falls. The
Steel faced the Capitols twice in the preseason, splitting the two matchups.
In the spirit of Halloween, the Steel will host a costume
contest on the ice during Friday’s game against Cedar Rapids. Additionally,
anyone that comes in costume will receive a Steel Trick-or-Treat bag and can
participate in the Trick-or-Treat during the game! For tickets to this
weekend’s games, please call the Steel box office at 630-594-1161 or visit
