The Chicago Steel look to rebound after two road losses to
the Bloomington Thunder last week. The Steel travel to Youngstown for a
Wednesday morning game against the Phantoms and then to Des Moines for a Friday
evening matchup against the Buccaneers. Puck drop is set for 9:15 a.m. CST on
Wednesday and 7:05 p.m. on Friday.
The Chicago Steel (9-8-2) dropped both games in Bloomington
last week. On Wednesday, the Steel took a 3-2 lead into the final period off of
Mason Bergh’s hat trick, but two late Thunder goals gave Bloomington the 4-3
victory. Saturday, the Steel fell behind early but tied the game at two behind
goals from John Schilling and Tyler Sifferlen. In the final period, Bloomington
tallied the game-winning goal in the 3-2 victory. Dennis Gilbert and Freddy Olofsson
each tallied three assists on the weekend.
The Youngstown Phantoms (10-6-3) split their two games with
Muskegon last weekend. After a dominating 8-0 win, Youngstown dropped
Saturday’s contest 3-2 in a shootout. The Steel are 2-0 against Youngstown this
season, defeating the Phantoms 5-2 and 7-5 in early November. Youngstown has
scored the second most goals in the league this season with 79.
The Des Moines Buccaneers (12-6-2) currently sit in second
place in the Western conference and are coming off a three game weekend sweep
with wins against Tri-City, Lincoln and Omaha. This is the second and final
time the Steel will face the Buccaneers this season, defeating Des Moines 7-2
on November 1st.
The Steel will return to the Edge Ice Arena next Saturday,
December 13th, as they face off against the Green Bay Gamblers.
