The Chicago Steel have a pair of games on the schedule this
weekend. The Steel will make the short trip up to Madison to face the Capitols
on Friday evening. On Saturday, the Steel return home to take on the other
Wisconsin USHL team, the Green Bay Gamblers. Puck drop for both games will take
place at 7:00 p.m.
The Steel (10-9-2) split their two games last weekend with a
7-4 win against the Des Moines Buccaneers Friday coming two days after the
Steel fell 2-1 in Youngstown. Mason Bergh tallied three goals and one assist
across the two games to extend his league-leading points total to 34, while Ryan
Blankemeier scored three goals on Friday against the Bucs for his first career
hat trick. The Steel will be without Cale Morris and Robby Jackson this
weekend, as they suit up for the USA Junior Select Team in the 2014 World
Junior A Challenge.
In their franchise’s first year, the Madison Capitols
(10-6-4) got off to a very slow start but have found their stride as of late.
Since the Steel beat the Capitols 2-1 in early November, Madison has gone
7-0-2. Forward Will Johnson leads the Capitol offense, recording 14 of his
team-high 26 points over their last eight games.
The Green Bay Gamblers (8-12-2) have dropped their last
three games, including a 6-3 loss to Cedar Rapids on Wednesday. Prior to making
the trip to Chicago, the Gamblers will host the Des Moines Buccaneers on Friday
evening. This season, the Steel have split their two meetings with Green Bay.
Chicago won 8-2 on opening weekend, before falling 4-3 in overtime one week
later.
