Chicago Steel: Heroic Holidays

This Saturday, the Chicago Steel is proud to host our Heroic Holiday theme night, in support of two outstanding nonprofit organizations. We are excited to offer fans the opportunity to become a "hero" this holiday season through a toy donation drive benefitting Toys for Tots and a 50/50 raffle with proceeds donated to the Wounded Warrior Project. Fans that bring a toy for donation will receive a $6.00 walk-up ticket to Saturday's Steel game against the Green Bay Gamblers.

Major Bill Hendricks founded the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots Program in 1947. Since that time, the program has grown tremendously, collecting millions of toys annually to distribute to children in need. The mission of the Toys for Tots Program is to collect new, unwrapped toys during October, November and December and distribute those toys during the holiday season to less fortunate children in the local community. Donated gifts are distributed with the goal of inspiring hope in these children as well as encouraging them to find joy this time of year. These local campaigns take place across all 50 states, Washington D.C. and Puerto Rico. Their success depends upon community members’ generosity and support as they unite to support a better future. More information on Toys for Tots can be found at http://www.toysfortots.org.

The Wounded Warrior Project was founded in 2003 by former veteran, John Melia, who was severely injured in a helicopter crash in Somalia in 1992. Following the events of September 11, 2001, Melia wanted to create a nonprofit organization to “honor and empower Wounded Warriors” and help others avoid the struggles that he and his family ran into following his return from combat. The organization offers 20 different programs and services with the focus on four main areas: mind, body, economic empowerment and engagement. WWP has served more than 40,000 veterans over the past decade and continues to aid in the recovery and rehabilitation of our brave soldiers. More information on WWP can be found at http://www.woundedwarriorproject.org

We want to thank all Steel fans in advance for their generous and caring donations to these two organizations. We hope to see you at the Edge on Saturday! Don't forget that we will also have "Skate with the Steel" immediately following the game.
