It's Not Thanksgiving Without Some Hockey!

Happy Tuesday Steel Fans! We hope that you are having a great week so far! This past Thanksgiving weekend the Steel welcomed the Lincoln Stars and the Indiana Ice to the Edge Ice Arena.

Below is Larissa with our weekend recap!



Following Friday's game, Chrisitan Heil, Brian LeBlanc, and Tim Davison all stayed after to interact with fans, as well as, sign autographs.

 
This week, the Steel will be playing two road games. On Thursday, November 29th, the Cedar Rapid RoughRiders will welcome the Chicago Steel to the Stable in Cedar Rapids, IA. Puck drop is set for 7:00pm. On Saturday, December 1st, the Waterloo Black Hawks will welcome the Chicago Steel to Young Arena in Waterloo, IA. Game time is set for 7:05pm.

Holiday on Ice

Hi Steel Fans!! Great news...we have new ticket packages just for the holidays!!

Let's Recap!

This weekend the Chicago Steel welcomed the Green Bay Gamblers and Team USA to the Edge Ice Arena in Bensenville. This was their first set of home games since playing Muskegon on October 20th. 

On Friday, both teams came out ready to play. It was scoreless for the first 40 minutes of play. Then, four minutes into the third period Matthew Weis was able to net a shot to give the Gamblers a 1-0 lead. With a minute left in regulation, the Steel pulled Sakellaropoulos, allowing an extra man on the ice. With three seconds left to go in the third, Trevor Olson got an empty net goal, to clinch the win for the Gamblers, making the final score 2-0. 

Alex Sakellaropoulos has 31 saves, with the Steel outshooting the Gamblers 33-29. 






Following Friday's game, fans were able to have a meet and greet with Joseph Widmar #8, Phil Marinaccio #9, and Thomas Ebbing #10.


Fans had pictures, pucks, cups, and bracelets ready for the players to sign.




On Saturday, the Steel welcomed Team USA U-18's to the Edge Ice Arena for the first time this season. The Steel came out ready to play, hoping to put the loss from Friday behind them. The first half of the first period, the Steel were able to keep USA from scoring. Then at 13:33, Anthony Louis netted a point making the score 1-0. Ten seconds later USA followed up with a second goal by Tyler Motte. About midway through the second period, Team USA increased their lead 3-0. Alex Roos finally got Chicago on the board with a powerplay goal off of a rebound from a shot by Thomas Ebbing. Christian Heil would score 1 minute and 20 seconds later, with the assist going to Daniel McNamara. Between the end of the second and through the third USA were able to capitalize on goals from Keaton Thompson, Will Butcher, John Hayden, and Anthony Louis, making the score 7-2. With 2:32 left in the third period Christian Neumann took a hard shot from the point, making the score 7-3. This was Neumann’s first goal of the season.

While the Steel were outshot 37-22, Alex Sakellaropoulos had 30 saves during regulation.



The Steel travel to Green Bay tomorrow, Wednesday, November 21st, to take on the Gamblers at the Resch Center. The game is set for 7:05pm. The Steel then return home for a two day showdown with the Lincoln Stars and the Indiana Ice. The Steel will play the Lincoln Stars on Friday, November 23rd at 7:30pm, and the Indiana Ice on Saturday, November 24th at 7:05pm.

forward to most this Thanksgiving?

 Happy Monday Steel Fans!! Since Thanksgiving is only a few days away, we figured that everyone is starting to prepare for their big Thanksgiving dinner. Usually, this is the meal that everyone looks forward to during the year. It's the one day were you eat until you are beyond full. Most Thanksgiving dinners have turkey, a variety of potatoes, stuffing, string beans, gravy, corn, pumpkin pie, and so much more.

Happy Thursday Steel Fans!! Since Thanksgiving is only a week away, we decided to sit down with the players and ask them what they are most thankful for this Thanksgiving. Let's Recap

Happy Wednesday Steel Fans!! We hope that you are having a fabulous week so far! This past Sunday, the Steel traveled to the Indiana to play against the Indiana Ice.

Below is Larissa with our Chicago Steel recap!



This weekend the Steel will play at home, Friday and Saturday. On Friday the Chicago Steel will welcome the Green Bay Gamblers for a 7:35pm game. Following Friday's game, fans will be able to meet some of the players to get their pictures taken and receive autographs.

On Saturday, November 17th, the Chicago Steel will welcome Team USA to Chicago. Game time is set for 7:05pm.

USA Captures Gold at WJAC



The Chicago Steel would like to send out a huge CONGRATULATIONS to Assistant Coach R.J. Enga, forward Thomas Ebbing, defenseman Jaccob Slavin, and the U.S. Junior Select Team on winning the gold medal at the 2012 World Junior A Challenge in Yarmouth, Nova Scotia.

The U.S. team went 2-0 in the preliminary rounds of the tournament with wins over Canada East and Switzerland, before continuing to the semifinals, defeating the Swiss again.  They faced Canada West in the gold medal match to earn their fourth gold medal in five years at the WJAC.

Thomas Ebbing recorded one assist and four penalty minutes in the tournament. Although Jaccob Slavin did not have any points, he had the honor of serving as alternate captain for the US squad.

Way to go USA!

The Steel are currently 8-2-1 and hold 3rd place in the Eastern Conference of the USHL with 17 points. They trail the first place Dubuque Fighting Saints by four points (Steel have played one less game.)

Goals
Christian Heil leads the team with 8 goals, followed by Alex Roos with 7, Phil Marinaccio at 6, Thomas Ebbing with 5 and Mackenzie MacEachern at 3. Danny Fetzer, Jeff Kubiak, and Tim Davison are tied with 2 goals; and six other players are tied with 1 goal so far. Three of those players scored their first goal of the season this past weekend in Sioux Falls.

Assists
Ray Pigozzi's 8 assists leads the team, with Roos and MacEachern tied at 6 assists; Jaccob Slavin at 5, four players tied at 4, three tied at 3, four players with 2, and seven players netted at 1 assist thus far.

Points
Roos tops the team with 13 points, Heil at 10, four players tied with 9, Slavin at 5, three players with 4, six players with 3, three players with 2, and Piazza with 1 point. 

Plus/Minus
Defenseman Christian Neumann leads the team with a +9 followed by Roos +6. Eighteen players on the current roster are even or hold a +/- greater than +1.

Penalty Minutes
The Steel have the second to least amount of penalty minutes in the league at 156. Kubiak has the most PIMs with 34, Benson with 28, and Ebbing at 12 PIMs. The rest of the team has 8 PIMs or less.

Goalie Leaders
Alex Sakellaropolous is tied for 1st in the league with 7 wins. Both Steel goaltenders have a save percentage above 90% - Sakellaropolous (7-1-1) with .921 and Chris Nell (1-1-0) with .925 SV%.

Steel at the World Junior A Challenge

The Chicago Steel are proud to be represented by defenseman, Jaccob Slavin; forward, Thomas Ebbing; and Assistant Coach, R.J. Enga on the U.S. Junior Select Team at the World Junior A Challenge in Yarmouth, Nova Scotia, Canada. It is an honor for them to be able to represent not only the Chicago Steel, but to be able to wear the red, white, and blue for their country.




The Chicago Steel wishes the best of luck to Slavin, Ebbing, Assistant Coach Enga, and the U.S. squad! GO FOR GOLD!
