The Chicago Steel have two games on the schedule this
weekend, both against teams they have yet to face this season. On Saturday, the
Steel welcome the Team USA U-18 Juniors to the Edge Ice Arena, with play set to
begin at 7 p.m. On Sunday, the Steel host the Sioux City Musketeers at 3:30
p.m.
The Steel (13-14-2) picked up four out of a possible six
points in week 15. On the final day of 2014, the Steel traveled to Muskegon and
took down the Lumberjacks 4-2. John Ernsting tallied two goals, Marcel Godbout
picked up two assists, and Cale Morris made an impressive 40 saves. On Friday,
the Steel returned home and fell to the Youngstown Phantoms 4-3 but rebounded
on Saturday, defeating Muskegon for the second time in four days. Marcel
Godbout and Jake Nielsen scored the game tying and game winning goals in the
final period as the Steel won 3-2. In his first career start, Lassi Yrjola
stopped 33 Lumberjack shot attempts to pick up the win.
Team USA (9-14-0) kicked off the New Year with two overtime
wins against Green Bay. Team USA
currently sits in last place in the Eastern Conference. The Steel will face
Team USA three times in the next two weeks.
Sioux City (18-9-3) is currently in first place in the
Western Conference. The Musketeers snapped their five game losing streak last
weekend, with two strong wins against the Fargo Force. Forward Adam Johnson
leads the Musketeer offense with 36 points, one shy of Mason Bergh’s
league-leading 37 points.
