The Chicago Steel travel to Wisconsin this weekend for road
matchups against the Madison Capitols and the Green Bay Gamblers. On Friday,
the Steel face the Capitols with play set to begin at 7:00 p.m. Saturday,
Chicago takes on Green Bay at 7:05 p.m.
After a 7-1 road loss in Waterloo last Friday, the Steel
(15-17-3) defeated the Dubuque Fighting Saints on Saturday in thrilling fashion to split
their weekend games. Down 3-1 in the final period, Freddy Olofsson scored twice
to tie the game with under a minute remaining in regulation. In overtime, Ryan
Blankemeier lit the lamp to defeat the Fighting Saints. Mason Bergh (1g, 1a)
and Freddy Olofsson (2g, 1a) are now tied for the team lead with 17 goals this
season.
The Madison Capitols (17-11-6) are coming off two Week 18
losses. Last Wednesday, the Capitols were defeated in overtime by the Lincoln
Stars and then fell to the Bloomington Thunder 5-1 last Friday. The Steel are
2-0-0 against the Capitols this season, defeating Madison 2-1 in October and
8-1 in December. In the December meeting, Brendon Kearney registered his first
career hat trick.
The Green Bay Gamblers (13-19-4) fell to the Sioux City
Musketeers twice last weekend, dropping Saturday’s game 4-1 and Sunday’s game
6-2. The Steel are 1-1-1 against the Gamblers this season, outscoring Green Bay
13-10 across the three matchups.
The Steel are on the road for the next three weeks but will
return to the Edge on February 20th-22nd for three home games
against Green Bay, Muskegon and Madison. Tickets can be purchased by calling
